I visited Malaysia two years ago for a business meeting. I brought my husband and daughter along since they haven’t been to Kuala Lumpur, and they are interested to do some sightseeing. Our bags were packed, our passports were ready, and we were excited to do some serious shopping. The day finally came and we all flew to Malaysia.

After touring Kuala Lumpur, we went to Genting to have fun riding the cable cars and touring the amusement parks. Genting was located on top of a mountain, and the weather was really cold. The day after we arrived, I started to sneeze, cough, and have a high fever. When I started to experience chills, my husband decided to bring me to the hospital.

The diagnosis was bronchitis and I have to be confined for a few days. It was a good thing that my husband availed a travel health insurance before our trip. What happened was an emergency and if he was not able to get an insurance, we would have spent a lot of money on hospital bills and medicine. Our regular health insurance back at our home country would have been useless because we were in a foreign land.

I’m fully recovered now, but because of that unpleasant experience, we made sure to get travel insurance quotes and avail of travel health insurance before traveling out of the country to protect our health and safety while abroad.
